• Sworn in as Governor of Texas on December 21, 2000
• Prior to being elected Lieutenant Governor, he served two terms as Texas Commissioner of Agriculture
• 1985 - 1991 served in the Texas House of Representatives as a rural West Texas representative
• 1972 - 1977 served in the U.S. Air Force flying C-130 tactical airlift aircraft over the U.S., Europe and Middle East
• Active member of the Boy Scouts and also a member of American Legion Post #75

Married to Anita Perry with two children, Griffin and Sydney
